All Consuming!

I don't usually like to post twice in one day but today I will make an exception because I just have to vent to people who will understand. When I was in the process of getting the band I felt like I wouldn't have to worry about food taking over my life anymore, but now that I have the band it feels almost like food has become all consuming! Fighting cravings and counting calories, measureing food out all the time. Freaking out because I ate a peice of dark chocolate and the scale might go up 5lbs. I know its not thecase forever, but this starting out feels like there is nothing else but food to get used to and count and measure. It's so frustrating!!!

  1. Hi Shannon, I know everyone does this a little differently, but I don't weigh or measure anything. I don't eat sugar-free foods or low-fate/fat-free foods. I don't count calories, carbs or anything else. I'm farther in the process than you and I did write down my foods for the first few months, but to me, I was banded so that I wouldn't have to diet. I decided that even if I lost more slowly, I was okay with that. As it turns out, I've lost pretty quickly so this was a non-issue.

What I try to do is eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I eat 3 meals a day and seldom have snacks. That's pretty much my program. I've lost more than 100 lbs. in 10+ months.

I do want to say (so that you don't get discouraged) that right after you're banded, it can take a few months to get to the point where you have good restriction. Some people go through what they call Bandster Hell where they feel like they can eat pretty much as they did pre-op. When you have good restriction, is it much easier to rely on your band to keep you from overeating and lose weight without dieting.

  3. I'm sorry, sweetie. I don't really know what you're going through, b/c I'm not banded yet, but I can certainly empathize. It must be frustrating, but maybe talk to your doctor and see what he recommends? Or if he's not very hands-on, maybe your NUT?
